A great day of ice fishing
A great day of ice fishing.During the month of January here in Southern New Hampshire it slows down on most of the hunting activity due to our hunting season dates.
There is some hunting going on for rabbit, coyotes, and probably a few other things.
For me, I try to keep my online store stock up with the latest ghillie suits an have them ready to go.
Winter seems a little slow to go but maybe because it gets pretty cold here.
Even though it seems slow, turkey season is always on my mind and just around the corner.
So in the meantime, while I’m waiting I’m thinking about trout, largemouth bass an of course panfish.
Sometimes I pick good ponds especially if it slow fishing. It gets kind of boring after 3 or 4 hours not catching any fish.
This pond below was a really good pick. There was everything imageable happing that day.
After a couple hours the fishing slowed up and then the drag sleds started for the rest of the day.
I did not pull my fishing traps up, I was still catching crappie a few at a time but that was good enough for me.
I didn’t want to leave skunk it makes me feel like I don’t know how to fish..
Below is a video of the drag racing and a few pictures of the crappie I caught on that day.
Top speed for the sleds was about 110 mph with a turbo and nitrous.
Oh, another thing you won’t believe, and I swear I’m telling the truth I was watching one of my fishing tipups and I got a flag that’s how it started.😎
I went over to that fish trap and started pulling on the line to try and catch whatever was on that hook.
As I was pulling it, it was getting pretty heavy and I was saying to my self it is a big bastard.
As I got it closer to the hole I looked down the hole an I told my buddy it’s a damn stick.
So instead of breaking my line, I tried to get the stick up through the hole.
I was pushing the stick down to try and get it to come straight up.
As was looking at it trying to get it out, something caught my eye and I looked at it, I told my buddy that big stick has an eyelet on it.
I had just snagged a fishing pole off the bottom of the lake that some poor bastard lost, probably fishing during the summer and it went overboard and now I have it. Unbelievable.
A great day of ice fishing.
My life is good and trout help to make it so!
It was a Daiwa SweepFire 4000B with a heavy duty Shimano Rod. A pretty nice catch for the day I would have to say.
That will never happen to me again in 100 years. 😜
So you never know what kind of a day ice fishing is unless you go.
